Our Head of Department Prof. Dr. Salih ŞAHİN and our faculty member Prof. Dr. Özlem YAĞBASAN supported the dissemination activity of the Erasmus Project titled “AQUASYMPHONY: Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Water Use” with presentations and events.
The project titled AquaSymphony: Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Water Use, prepared within the scope of Small-Scale Partnerships in School Education (KA210-SCH) under the Erasmus+ Main Action 2 Partnerships activity, in which Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education is a partner, is supported by the Italian National Agency. The project is coordinated by Nadiye ÖZCAN, a former graduate of our Geography Education Department, on behalf of Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education. Thanks to the project, the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with our students who graduated in previous years has been achieved.
The aim of the project is to increase teachers’ awareness of the effects of climate change and global warming on water resources and their competencies regarding sustainable water use. The direct beneficiaries of the project are high school teachers. The project, coordinated by Italy, has project partners other than Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education, including institutions from Poland and Romania.
Within the scope of the KA210 Project titled “AQUASYMPHONY, Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Water Use”, the “Global Steps in Education for the Value of Water” activity, planned to effectively and permanently convey the effects of climate change on water resources and solutions to students in educational environments, was carried out with the participation of 40 teachers.
Within the scope of the project dissemination activity, a field visit was made to Çubuk-1 Dam, the first dam in Turkey, under the guidance of our Department Head, Prof. Dr. Salih ŞAHİN. Here, the participants were given detailed information about the importance of water, dams in Turkey and especially Çubuk 1 Dam.
Later, the participants made a presentation titled “Evaluation of the Impact of Climate Change on Mogan and Eymir Lake Levels” by our Department Member Prof. Dr. Özlem YAĞBASAN at Gölbaşı-Mogan Tourism MTAL. After the presentation, our Department Head, Prof. Dr. Salih ŞAHİN, carried out the activities titled “Pecha Kucha”, “Water Bingo” and “Who is Telling the Truth” regarding the concepts related to water, in accordance with the project title. The participating teachers stated that they had a lot of fun learning during the activities and that they will apply them in their classes.
